Work Location: Springfield Campus Department: Geography Geology & Planning Pay Grade: Unclassified Posting Number: 20180014FTF General Function: The Instructor NT is a non-tenure track position with responsibilities to teach full-time and to provide appropriate service. The Instructor NT may participate in research or creative activities. Description of Primary Duties: Teaching 'GRY 240 Earth Science for Teachers' and other related courses in science education and the Earth sciences. Advising all physics, chemistry, and Earth science students interested in education tracks. Co-supervision of student teachers. Co-chair the College of Natural and Applied Sciences STEM Education Committee. The candidate will also have responsibilities for administering and complying with departmental, institutional, and state teacher education and licensure policies. The instructor workload will be the equivalent of 24 equated hours per academic year, including assigned teaching, advising, supervisory, and service duties. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: An earned terminal degree or the degree required for teaching in certain disciplines is required. Potential or demonstrated teaching ability is required. A willingness to serve the academic unit, college, and the University is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Additional Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include: 1) a master's degree in Earth Science Education (or related science education degree), 2) qualification for licensure as a teacher in Missouri, 3) K-12 teaching experience, and 4) two years of experience in college-level instruction. Candidates having a master's degree in Geology, Geography, Earth Science, or a closely related field; college-level teaching experience; and a commitment to administering science education programs and mentoring student teachers may also be considered.
