Rutgers University–New Brunswick seeks an accomplished scientist to serve as the inaugural Henry Rutgers Professor of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences and to join our faculty in spring 2019 or as negotiated. Henry Rutgers Professorships were created recently, with central administration resources, to recruit excellent faculty with established track records in specific disciplines identified in the University's strategic plan.
Minimum Education and Experience:
The position requires an earned doctorate and a body of work that would merit appointment to a senior faculty position with tenure.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate will engender cross-cutting research, teaching, and service amongst Earth, oceans, and atmospheric sciences, advancing Rutgers' leadership in one or more critical scientific problems. S/he will engage as a key member of Rutgers' Institute of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences (EOAS). The Institute is a broad interdisciplinary community fostering research, education, and engagement about Earth's interior, continents, oceans, atmosphere, and biosphere, their interactions and co-evolution through our planet's history, and humanity's dependence and impacts upon these systems. EOAS' mission encompasses: exploration of the geosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, atmosphere and biosphere of Earth and its neighbors; integration of different disciplines and perspectives to better understand the complex dynamics of the Earth system; and stewardship of the planetary environment.
Candidates should be internationally recognized for their research, have a demonstrated commitment to cross-disciplinary collaboration in the natural and social sciences, and possess a commensurate record of publications, grants, teaching and service. In addition to being an EOAS member, the successful candidate will have a tenure home in a disciplinary department, with the potential for joint appointment in multiple departments. Potential home departments include, but are not limited to: Earth and Planetary Sciences; Ecology, Evolution and Natural Resources; Environmental Sciences; Geography; and Marine and Coastal Sciences.
