The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
We seek an early career geophysicist who will complement existing areas of strength in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) with a research focus in at least one of the following areas: near-surface/environmental geophysics, crust and mantle processes, tectonics, volcanology, marine geophysics, hydrogeophysics, natural hazard characterization and mitigation, and natural resource exploration. The successful candidate will be a field-oriented colleague who has a deep understanding of the underlying geological and physical principles and the imagination to address a wide range of problems on a variety of temporal and spatial scales using seismology, MT/EM or other geophysical techniques.
The successful candidate is expected to teach in both lower- and upper-division courses in the undergraduate Earth Sciences program, as well as graduate courses in their specialty. The successful candidate is also expected to develop a vibrant, externally funded research program and contribute to teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. Oregon State University's (OSU's) Solid Earth Geophysics program has a strong international reputation and a history of creative research and teaching that crosses disciplinary boundaries in the geosciences, and allied fields such as engineering, forestry and water resources.
For academic-track positions, it is CEOAS policy to confer indefinite tenure when promoted to Associate Professor, with indefinite tenure granted on either a 9-month, 1.0 FTE or 12-month, 0.75 FTE appointment basis.

The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences is an internationally recognized leader in the study of the Earth as an integrated system. It operates numerous state-of-the art laboratories and three oceanographic research vessels, the 177-foot ocean-going Oceanus, the 84-foot coastal research vessel Pacific Storm, and the 54-foot coastal research vessel Elakha. The College has an annual budget of more than $50 million, with support coming from the National Science Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and other federal agencies. It has more than 100 faculty, 200 graduate students and 600 undergraduate students. Graduate programs include M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences; Geology; and Geography and a M.S. degree in Marine Resource Management. The college has undergraduate programs in Earth Sciences and Environmental Sciences, with several minors and certificate programs.
Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension positions and MLS for Library positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or other setting, and develop a research program in the academic discipline/unit.
Ph.D. in Geophysics, Geology, or cognate field.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. This position may require working in the field, laboratory, or at sea. Field work may require working in rough terrain, inclement weather, and strenuous environments and conditions. The ability to travel as needed to advance research program may be required.
