Bloomsburg University, the third largest of the 14 members of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Soil Science at the Assistant Professor level to begin fall semester 2019. The successful candidate will be expected to: 1) teach introductory and upper-level courses in soil science as well as introductory courses in geography and environmental science (12-hour per semester teaching load), 2) develop a curriculum that will lead students towards the SSSA Certification in Soil Sciences, 3) develop an active, field-based research program that involves undergraduates and will seek external funding, and 4) forge working relationships with community conservation groups and organizations. Applicant must have a Ph.D. or doctorate, in a relevant field, from an accredited institution by August 16, 2019.
The preferred candidate will have experience teaching in classroom, laboratory, and in field settings, demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, and will demonstrate an ability to work with diverse populations. The preferred candidate will also demonstrate potential for a productive research/scholarship program, provide examples of collaborative and outreach efforts to agencies and conservation groups, and show evidence of relevant industry experience and/or expertise. Finalists for the position must communicate well and successfully complete an interview, including a research presentation as judged by the department faculty. Recommendation for hiring is needed by the majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.
