The Maseeh Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Portland State University invites applications for an Assistant or Associate rank faculty position in Statistics, whose research program focuses on Statistical Data Science. This position is part of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' interdisciplinary cluster hire focusing on Environmental Extremes (impacts, adaptations, and solutions). This cluster includes 8 additional faculty hires in the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Management, Geography, Physics, English, and Communication. This position is also part of a strategic initiative in Data Sciences organized by the Maseeh Department of Mathematics & Statistics and involving multiple hires over the upcoming years.
In addition to teaching a range of courses in statistics during the 9 month academic year, the successful candidate will be expected to: share in the leadership of research in Statistics at PSU and contribute to its excellence; be active in collaborations — not only within the Department, but also with other departments in the University and other institutes; direct graduate student research; and advise undergraduates. Further expectations include taking an active role in matters of departmental governance and participating in service activities for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the University, and the profession appropriate to interest, expertise, and level of experience.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Statistics or a closely related field.
The new faculty is expected to participate in the further development of a strong and highly visible research and educational program in statistics. We are looking for exceptional applicants with an outstanding record of research, external funding, and a commitment to excellence in teaching.
