6th Grade History Teacher (One-Year Leave Replacement)
6th Grade History is a subject area course designed to build essential language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) and a global historical perspective that spiral upward in our college-preparatory program. Throughout this course, students investigate the following essential questions within the study of the Middle Ages in Europe, the Middle East, and Western Africa: What makes a community? What is the individual’s role in community life? What happens when the individual’s needs conflict with the needs of the community? How does geography impact the development of society? Thematic units covered include: Medieval Europe, Islam, the Kingdoms of West Africa, and the European Renaissance. Candidates with these areas of interest or expertise are desired, but not required. This position includes collaboration and planning with other grade level peers along with the chair of the History department as well as Advisory responsibilities. Advisors in the Middle School oversee students' progress in all classes, serve as the primary contact with parents, and participate in other responsibilities such as overnight trips, teaching our anti-bias curriculum, and leading service learning activities.
All Middle School teachers are expected to be active community members, sharing supervisory duties and general support and care of the school community. Experience teaching with and knowledge of pre-adolescent students is expected. Comfort with and desire to utilize interactive, creative and inspirational teaching techniques, assessments, and technology in the classroom is desired.
