Assistant Professor of Politics and International Relations
Holy Names University in Oakland, CA is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Politics and International Relations. The International Relations major at HNU is dynamic, interdisciplinary and humanistic in orientation, emphasizing the core values of the Holy Names Sisters, including the full development of the human person, a dedication to social justice, civic engagement and global citizenship. The teaching load is generally 4 courses per semester for a total of 24 units per year. The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses in Introduction to U.S. History, Introduction to Political Science, World Politics and Geography, Comparative Political Systems, Global Perspectives, Comparative Revolutions, International Relations, and Power and Powerlessness. The candidate should also have the ability to teach an Ethnic Experience course or a regional area in history (e.g. Latin America). This is a one-year term contract position renewable for at least three years, with the possibility of conversion to a tenure track position with demonstrated program growth.
QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should have a PhD in Political Science, International Relations and/or Development, or a related field (e.g. Political Sociology) and have experience teaching undergraduate students. ABD doctoral candidates will also be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have previously and successfully taught the specific courses mentioned above.
