The Spanish instructor will inspire students to genuinely explore Spanish through innovative & interdisciplinary curriculum and personalized, hands-on instruction. The Spanish instructor will be responsible for motivating each student to develop competencies, knowledge and skills in comprehending, speaking, reading and writing Spanish. The instructor will share the culture of the countries where Spanish is spoken to discover and develop special talents of students in Spanish communication. The Spanish instructor is expected to help students communicate their understandings through the lens of global citizenship. GCE Lab School’s open position will include teaching all high school grade levels. This position includes space for personalizing the Spanish curriculum to fit the instructor’s interests and students' needs.
Actively instruct students with different learning styles and behaviors by preparing lesson plans that reflect student needs and group dynamic
Manage students in the classroom
Communicate with parents to help prepare students in their foreign language abilities
Teach knowledge and skills in foreign language including:
Using the target language to communicate within and beyond the classroom setting
Using the target language to develop an understanding of the customs, arts, literature, history, and geography associated with the target language.
Using the target language to make connections and reinforce knowledge and skills across academic, vocational and technical disciplines. This includes an emphasis on student communication and dialogue in the foreign language.
Assess and monitor student progress
Submit and implement a curriculum that includes oral exams on language and skills, a final project, and maintaining weekly grades for the students
Bridge classes and ideas in a collaborative and cross-curricular environment
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of School
Summary of Qualifications and Expectations
Teaching experience with and interest in progressive, experiential, and digital methods of education; Teachers as facilitators – embrace a non-traditional teacher role
Fluency in Spanish
Experience working in multicultural and multi-ethnic environments
Computer and internet skills, as well as the desire to learn new online communication platforms
Experience with, or ability to learn, Google Classrooms
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Non-profit experience a plus
Living abroad/Travel experiences a plus
Time & Place
This is a part-time (8-10 hours a week), full year position, following GCE’s annual and weekly calendar. Position is through June 12, 2019, with possibility to extend into 2019-20 school year. Classes meet at GCE Lab School on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons.
