The Program Director (PD), in partnership and close collaboration with the Executive Director (ED), oversees the Executive Master in Cybersecurity (EMCS) degree program for professional students who seek leadership positions in organizational cybersecurity policy, strategy and technical area oversight. The PD brings to the position substantial professional experience in the field of cybersecurity. The ideal candidate will also have credentials that qualify the individual for a faculty of the practice appointment (non-tenure).
EMCS is a 16-18-month program that is conducted through blended study online and in several weeklong residential sessions. This program draws mid-career students from throughout the U.S. and beyond who work full-time while completing their degree. The School of Professional Studies supports recruiting and enrollment management, course development (especially online), public relations, and student services and other activities for the program. The program is developed and delivered in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs.
In ongoing collaboration, consultation, and coordination with the ED and SPS leadership, the PD contributes to the strategic planning for the program, including the refinement of the vision for the program, the definition of program objectives and milestones, the monitoring and assessment of program outcomes, and the strategy/management of a budget that supports the program goals.
The PD leads the administrative, professional, and academic support personnel for all aspects of the program and is responsible for its success and growth. The PD serves on the Executive Education Team responsible for strategy, program development, and growth across the SPS portfolio of professional programs.The PD works closely with SPS leadership, the EMCS Executive Director, Program Directors of other executive programs, faculty, program staff, external experts, members of the EMCS advisory committee, and with SPS functional area leaders and support staff. The PD plays a key role in recruiting candidates, building a network, and establishing corporate relationships for the program. The PD provides learning support for students, monitors online academic activities, and communicates regularly with faculty and program leaders. The PD ensures effective program evaluation and maintains a practice of continuous improvement.
The PD manages the entire student lifecycle with following responsibilities: 1) execute admission strategy and manage admission quality to meet enrollment objectives for the program, including collaboration with marketing to support student recruiting efforts; 2) continuously monitor changing market needs and program curriculum offerings and provide specific recommendations for possible changes in program; 3) engage in outreach activities including corporate relationships, advisory committee and representation at conferences and other public events; 4) engage with studentsâ™ during enrollment, overseeing student experiences during residential sessions; 5) assist in development of alumni services specific to the professional graduates.
The PD should be qualified to teach in the program and advise students in critical challenge projects and will assume this and/or other program faculty responsibilities as appropriate under a faculty of the practice appointment, based on interests, program needs, and qualifications.

In collaboration with the Executive Director, SPS leadership, and program faculty leadership, contribute to the strategic planning for the program to ensure the program vision is consistent with university goals, the program execution achieves educational and financial objectives, and the program curriculum remains relevant, current, and of high quality for professionals who aspire to executive roles related to cybersecurity. Execute student recruitment and admission strategy and achieve admission quality to meet enrollment objectives for the program. (30%)
Continuously evaluate program curriculum offerings and student experience and provide specific recommendations to the Executive Director for possible changes in program. (10%)
Plan and participate in outreach activities, including corporate relationships, advisory committee membership and meetings, and representation at conferences and other public outlets. (10%)
Ensure excellent student experience during program enrollment and help craft alumni services specific to the professional graduates. (20%)
Education & Experience
Masterâ™s degree required; Advanced degree in relevant degree area preferred
Substantial professional experience in the field of cybersecurity in industry, government, NGOs, or private consulting practice required
Instructional experience qualifying the individual for a faculty of the practice appointment in the Department of Computer Science or School of Professional Studies to enable teaching and advising in the program preferred
Experience in project administration, management, and/or in an academic or corporate leadership environment with proven ability to manage programs, projects/people, timelines, deliverables and budgets, and to adhere to institutional guidelines
Industry experience and the ability to develop and manage corporate relationships preferred
Experience in executive and/or online education is a plus
Experience in marketing, sales/recruitment and cost analysis desirable
Collaborative team player who fosters open communication and cooperation among stakeholders
Self-disciplined individual who works independently and applies good judgment
Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Understanding of current leadership issues and trends in corporate world, technology
BACKGROUND CHECK: Criminal & Education
The Executive Master in Cybersecurity program serves a largely US student population with some enrollment from other geographies. Cohorts of 30 - 40 highly qualified students should enroll annually. The PD coordinates delivery of the program with eight to twelve course faculty and numerous co-instructors, curriculum assistants, teaching assistants, and the Executive Director. The program will grow through the addition of students and/or cohorts, with commensurate growth in faculty and other academic assistants. The PD will serve as liaison among students, faculty, program and university staff, and program and university leaders. Early plans for additional non-degree programming is in development and the PD will be instrumental in the design and delivery of these programs as well.
The program will require some travel, and some long hours or weekend engagements to support program design, residential sessions and student needs.
