The primary duties for this position include teaching (0.8 teaching) and student-focused research and engagement (0.2 research and engagement) in both the Global Studies Program as well as the Forsythe Family Program on Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs.
The Assistant Professor of Practice will teach three courses per semester, including introductory and capstone courses in global studies and human rights. This Assistant Professor of Practice will also oversee students’ experiential learning and build relationships with interested partners on campus, in the community, and around the globe. The Assistant Professor of Practice will serve on the Advisory Board for the Forsythe Family Program on Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs.
Candidates must have a PhD by July 1, 2020 in a related field, including but not limited to, Anthropology, Communication Studies, Economics, Geography, History, Languages and Literature, Political Science and Sociology, among other fields. Successful candidates will have experience in or a commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and should be prepared to teach introductory and advanced courses in global studies and human rights.
Preferred candidates would have experience engaging in student/community outreach; experience managing projects; a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse range of students including first-generation students, students of color, students from low-income backgrounds, and high-ability students; experience mentoring students outside the classroom (e.g. supervisor, registered student organization advisor, etc.); and experience building relationships across multiple constituencies.
