Berkeley Carroll is a Pre-K through grade 12 college preparatory school of 970 students located in the Park Slope section of New York City. Our vibrant intellectual community draws students from all over the city. Admission to the school is competitive, and both our parents and students value achievement.
The Berkeley Carroll Middle School seeks an inspirational and passionate Humanities teacher for a full-time position beginning in the autumn of 2020. Intelligence, stamina, humor and an abiding interest in the special qualities of middle schoolers are essential. The BCS middle school puts a premium on collegiality, an ability to listen and a commitment to a supportive community that strives to honor diversity in every aspect.
Our middle school includes grades five through eight and the grade level for this position is yet to be decided. Candidates should be team-oriented and possess the desire to work closely with one or more teachers in grade-level teams. The ideal candidate will be willing to experiment with curricular materials and respond to students’ learning styles. The expected responsibilities are to teach two sections of double periods, to serve as an advisor and offer an elective at least once a year. Ideally, candidates will have experience teaching this age range.
The Humanities program, although heavily reliant on a framework of history and literature, draws widely from religion, philosophy, social science, arts, geography and ethics to provide context and meaning. At each grade level, the curriculum fosters the growth of skill-building ranging from grammar, spelling and vocabulary to the ability to think analytically and acutely about global issues.
Berkeley Carroll is committed to an inclusive program and a diverse faculty and student body. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and experience with diversity, equity or inclusion work are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates should send a resume, cover letter, references and teaching statement to email@example.com. No phone calls please.
