Collaboration and flexibility are key as this person is a member of the 6th-grade team as well as the middle school social sciences department. The job entails planning and teaching dynamic, age-appropriate lessons in 6th grade as well as being a grade-level advisor. The 6th-grade social studies curriculum is anchored in Ancient Civilizations and weaves in multiple social sciences such as geography, sociology, economics, and anthropology. There is a focus on the Sustainable Development Goals to connect ancient culture and time to contemporary issues. In addition to teaching and advising, there is an expectation to communicate regularly and proactively with students, their families, and colleagues while contributing positively to the overall school culture while fulfilling duties as assigned (recess and lunch supervision, field trip supervisor, etc) and serving on all-school committees as requested or desired.
This is a full-time, exempt position beginning August 1, 2020, and reports to the Middle School Principal.
