The Department of Geography, University at Buffalo is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to join an interdisciplinary research team investigating genotypic variation in growth and yield of crops grown under biophysical stress. The project is funded by NSF through the Plant Genome Research Project to SUNY at Buffalo (UB), University of Wyoming, UC Davis, and Dartmouth. The selected scholar will be based at UB. The research will focus on the integration of plant genotypic (e.g., RNAseq), metabolomic, and phenotypic data (e.g. chlorophyll fluorescence) into biophysical process-based models for the purpose of connecting the phenome to the genome. A variety of modeling approaches will be used to reveal the connections between both measured and modeled phenotypic traits to genetic mechanisms. Candidates must be comfortable with quantitative data analysis, have experience in plant physiology or genomics, and either have experience with or a willingness to learn process-based modeling. The position will require close collaboration with a research team of plant physiologists, genomicists, and modelers. Opportunities for teaching, greenhouse work, and travel to work at collaborative labs are available if desired.
The job duties and responsibilities of this position will be:
Improve existing biophysical process-based models of whole-plant hydraulics, physiology, and growth informed by transcriptomic, metabolomic, and phenotypic data
Assist with the design and implementation of data collection and data synthesis protocols, work collaboratively with other members of the team, and be expected to publish papers

The position is affiliated with the Geography Department and Center for Computing Research at UB, a large R1 university. UB has cutting edge computational resources including an 8,000 CPU, 170 Tflop computer cluster and high-end visualization laboratory.
