If you are passionate about using technology and medicine to improve the lives of others, and seeking a position and career that interacts with Neurology researchers, and health care professionals; and requires excellent people, computer, and organization skills, this opportunity may be of interest to you. We are seeking a full-time Specialist to become an integral part of our team! We offer a positive environment with dedicated colleagues in the Department of Neurology at UCSF. This candidate will be integral in building surveys, implementing data quality control measures and managing data flows for large, web-based epidemiologic studies, which aim to collect subject reported data from people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), care-partners, people at risk of developing PD, and healthy control volunteers for the ultimate goal of informing therapeutic studies.
The Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and coordination of data collection instruments, data rectification and data documentation for large, web-based studies.
Technology now allows thousands to contribute vast volumes of data on their lived experience of disease: from symptoms and quality of life to treatment satisfaction and research participation preferences. This data is collectively known as patient-reported outcomes, or PROs, and holds the power to redefine therapeutic priorities, influence funding streams and optimize trial design.
The studies collect data through web-based platforms that can be continually updated including health information from thousands of people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), care-partners, people at risk of developing PD, and healthy control volunteers. Under the direction of the study leadership team, you will lead implementation of proposed longitudinal data collection activities, one-time surveys and implement the related change communications and documentation.
We are seeking a candidate who enjoys mixing web-based technology with medicine, and liaising with multiple study collaborators. You value professionalism, excellent service, integrity, compassion, and have a positive attitude. You have excellent people and computer skills, are accurate and detail oriented, and have excellent communication and data skills.
Why collect patient reported outcomes in PD? While patient-reported outcomes supplement biological measures of disease and therapeutic impact, they are not a replacement. Web-based studies complement traditional, in-person research studies with scale and accessibility, overcoming traditional barriers to research participation such as geography and mobility limitations. Curated, de-identified (without names or email addresses, for example) study data is made available to researchers worldwide in real time. Real-time access to the study data can drastically reduce research timelines, advancing new therapies faster. If you believe in giving back to the Parkinson’s disease community, come join us in making a difference together!
