The Environmental Studies Program (ENVS) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track lecturer position in Environmental Data Science beginning September 1, 2020. ENVS is a rapidly growing program that offers a new stand-alone major, a co-major, and two minors. We welcome candidates with diverse academic backgrounds, including but not limited to the sciences, natural resource management, engineering, or geography. The successful applicant will be expected to teach the equivalent of three courses per semester. Specific courses include Introduction to Environmental Studies; Introduction to Environmental Fieldwork; EnvironmentalData, Analysis & Visualization; and a senior capstone class. Depending on the applicant's area of expertise, other classes might include Introduction toGIS for Environmental Studies, Environmental Statistics,or an advanced seminar. In addition, the faculty member will advise undergraduate ENVS majors in course planning, mentor senior theses, and provide program and university-wide service. Candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to other data science initiatives within the university such as the new Master of Science in Data Analytics and the Data Intensive Studies Center (DISC).
Requirements: An advanced degree in a related field required (must be in hand by September 1, 2020). Candidates with quantitative training, expertise in data visualization, and experience involving students in stakeholder-relevant research are desired. ENVS is an undergraduate-serving unit, and candidates should be committed to teaching a highly motivated undergraduate student body.
