Saint Gertrude High School seeks an innovative, collaborative, and experienced Social Studies Teacher to teach World Regions (9th grade), Contemporary World History (10th grade), and Sociology (elective course for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade) for the 2020-21 school year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teach college preparatory and honors level courses in World Regions and Contemporary World History; as well as Sociology, an elective course
Inspire global awareness in students, fostering empathy for all the world's peoples
Convey a keen appreciation for geography's role in the history of a place and its people
Demonstrate a passion for current events, especially global events
Incorporate a variety of primary and secondary source material into lessons
Foster historical thinking skills (continuity and change, contextualization, cause and effect, synthesis and argumentation, etc.) in addition to the course content
Collaborate with other faculty on cross-curricular and cross-disciplinary initiatives, including a research paper/project with the English department
Promote growth of the whole student, especially with freshmen and sophomores, as they navigate the new challenges of high school
Support the mission of the school, model its Benedictine values, and journey with students as they become confident, competent, and compassionate women
Utilize the school's LMS, including Open Gradebook, to post assignments, units of study, and related course materials to support student self-initiative and self-advocacy
Assume standard non-curricular responsibilities assigned to all faculty at Saint Gertrude High School in furtherance of our school's sense of community
This is a ten-month teaching position and faculty report to work in mid-August 2020

Valid Virginia Teaching License in Social Studies, Secondary level
Degree in History, Political Science, Economics, or Sociology preferred
Demonstrated effective classroom instruction
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Experience with Google Apps for Education and teaching in a 1:1 environment preferred
