Job Description: The School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences seeks applicants for a 12 month (60% research, 40% teaching), tenure-track position specializing in GIS and related spatial technologies applied to digital agriculture. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses that may include introductory courses in agricultural GIS, a field-based course in global navigation systems (GNSS / GPS), and other courses in the area of digital agriculture. The incumbent will serve as a program resource for extension agents, consultants, commodity groups and other agricultural clientele. Areas of research that would complement teaching, extension and research efforts of soil and plant scientists in the unit would include GIS/WebGIS platforms to support precision agriculture applications, refining high throughput phenotyping studies, implementing crop growth modeling into GIS, and better understanding environmental interactions to further the science of digital agriculture.

Qualification Requirements: Ph.D. in soils, agronomy, geography, agricultural engineering, geology, biology or related disciplines. Willingness to work closely with others and provide undergraduate student advising is required. Some travel is required, and US driver’s license and drone certification preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication are required. PhD students and recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
