The Department of History and Political Science at Millikin University seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in World History, area of specialization and period open, at the Assistant Professor level beginning in Fall 2021. The department seeks dedicated a teacher able to teach the World History survey courses and regional histories (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America). Additionally, the ability and willingness to teach historiography and/or geography are desirable. Millikin University is a private, comprehensive institution serving approximately 2,100 undergraduate, graduate, full-time and part-time students who study in four colleges/schools: Arts and Sciences, Business, Fine Arts and Professional Studies. Situated on an attractive seventy-acre campus in Decatur, Illinois (population of 85,000), Millikin is located 180 miles southwest of Chicago, 150 miles west of Indianapolis, and 120 miles northeast of St. Louis. A Ph.D. in history conferred before August 2021 is required for a tenure-track position. This position carries a full-time teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester. There are also opportunities to develop travel courses should applicants be interested in such course delivery methods. The successful applicant must maintain a program of active scholarship and supervise research projects by undergraduate students. Other duties include advising students and university service. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a copy of graduate and undergraduate transcripts, a statement of teaching philosophy, three confidential letters of reference.
