Middle and Upper School HISTORY teacher

Overview

Maui Preparatory seeks a full-time Upper School History Teacher to begin school year 2021/2022.  This position represents an opportunity to join in the ongoing development of a dynamic Middle and Upper School history curriculum that continues to grow. The ideal candidate shows an appreciation for the craft of teaching historical thinking and analytical skills, is well-versed in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and regards collaboration as a community of adult learners as an essential component of professional growth and rigor.

Responsibilities

• Teach various sections of Upper School History including Geography, Ancient Civilizations, American History, Foundations of World History
• Collaborate to design curriculum, assessments, and teaching methods
• Participate and collaborate in department-wide initiatives concerning issues of equity, pedagogy, and curriculum

• Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
• Demonstrates pedagogical skill, an appreciation for the craft of teaching, and love of history as a discipline
• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in teaching a variety of historical texts and perspectives
• Regards collaboration as an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team
• Enjoys a commitment that extends beyond the classroom, including contributions to the larger school and island community
• Possesses a history degree or equivalent experience
• Has sustained experience teaching Upper School History (Grades 6 - 12)
