Full Time Visiting Position in Food Studies (2022) Rank Open, Non-Tenure-Track
NYU's Department of Nutrition and Food Studies is seeking candidates for a non-tenure-track visiting position in food studies, rank open. The position will begin January 1, 2022. This is a one-year position with the possibility of an additional year. We are particularly seeking candidates from underrepresented groups, particularly BIPOC scholars, veterans, and the differently abled.
The NYU Food Studies program takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying food culture and the food system in all its permutations, from production through consumption and waste, particularly in urban settings. The program examines the complexities of supplying the city, including food distribution and transportation, water and waste management, and the rural-urban interface. Issues of equitable access, public policy and health are also germane to topics on urban food systems.
Responsibilities: The candidate is expected to teach in the undergraduate and master's programs, supervise PhDs, and conduct scholarship in food studies. The candidate will be expected to be an active, accomplished teacher and to engage in the intellectual life of the program and the department. Doctorate in related field, teaching experience, record of research. We will consider candidates with a range of research interests, which may include: geography; sociology; urban studies and planning; environmental studies; cultural analysis; waste and water management; philosophy; agricultural policy and urban markets; agro-ecology; landscape design. We will also consider candidates in the final stages of their dissertation.
