The Department of History is well-positioned at Purdue with four named chairs, nearly 30 award-winning faculty, a robust graduate program and undergraduate History Honors program, and 170 course offerings. The department is a leader in interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, and engagement across the College of Liberal Arts and the broader university campus with multiple faculty members serving as directors of these programs.
The department's graduates have become successful nationally and internationally recognized scholars, CEOs of major U.S. and international corporations, state supreme court justices, and United Nations and government representatives. The nationally and internationally recognized faculty have been successful in obtaining grants and fellowships to expand their research; they have been honored with department/college/university and community awards recognizing their teaching, and they share their expertise by engaging in community, state and national committees/projects. Purdue History faculty have strong and productive research and publication records.
