Overview The Institute for Health, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, and the substantial resources of Rutgers University offer a rich collaborative environment for conducting research in health disparity and health equity. IFH is the home to a variety of program focused on health disparities and health equity, including NIA funded P30 RCMAR Center. RBHS is home to Rutgers Health Group, New Jersey's largest multi-specialty medical group that includes the state's only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, a large behavioral health delivery system, and Robert Wood Johnson Partners, a commercial and Medicare ACO. RBHS partners with RWJBarnabas Health, the state's largest healthcare delivery system for clinical-academic research partnerships. Research among these units expands considerably the opportunities for this position. The Institute for Health has faculty, staff and other investigators with considerable expertise in the health disparity and health equity research, social and clinical sciences, health research and policy, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, and related fields. The faculty have exceptional capacity and decades long history of addressing the most pressing health and healthcare challenges. The Institute and its Survey Data Core is home to considerable expertise in the analysis of large, integrated health-related clinical and administrative datasets, national surveys, Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance data with the application of social science theory and advanced statistical techniques. The Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, a unit of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), invites applications for multiple faculty positions in behavioral health with emphasis in population health research experience or training. Successful candidates will develop a program of scholarly research in the areas of psychiatry or psychology in adult and/or child and adolescent populations, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, addiction medicine, public mental health and/or special patient populations such as immigrant populations, incarcerated populations, among others. A proven track record of success in producing high-quality scholarly work, in addition to excellence in teaching/mentorship and established expertise in their respective field is expected of potential faculty. Areas of training for possible candidates could include, but are not limited to, psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychiatrists, and neuropsychologists. In addition, applicants with perspectives from clinical medicine, public health, medicine, nursing, sociology, or other related fields in addition to geography are encouraged to apply. Potential candidates should have a strong interest in working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary group of social scientists, behavioral scientist, clinicians and policy scholars to build a population health research portfolio and a track record or high potential for independent federal funding. The successful candidate will develop a program of research in any of a number of potential areas of research in behavioral health as noted above, but also foster collaborations including, but not limited to, health disparity and health equity, aging/gerontology, trauma exposure, violence, biopsychosocial behaviors in prevention and treatment, chronic disease management and health outcomes, and evaluation of health policy and delivery system initiatives. In line with the Institute's mission, research addressing population health, translational scientific research, and the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups is highly desirable
Minimum Education and Experience:
Minimum Education and Experience Candidates with doctoral or equivalent degree in psychology, psychiatry, internal medicine, nursing, neuropsychology, public health, sociology, demography, policy or equivalent are strongly preferred. A strong theoretical grounding and quantitative and/or qualitative research skills with excellent oral and written communication skills to support developing a rigorous program of research is expected for candidates of all levels. A track record of independent funding through successfully competing for research grants is highly desired. A successful candidate will have joint appointments in the Institute for Health with tenure-track or tenured appointment within a mutually fitting Rutgers school or department with teaching, clinical, and/or mentoring responsibilities. To encourage the growth of faculty's programs of research, faculty will have substantial protected time do conduct interdisciplinary and translational research in an environment that is conducive for success. Opportunity exists for appointment as a Chancellor's Scholar or endowed chair position as well as protective efforts and support during the early years of hire. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with a candidates' achievements including funding and publication record, as well as other relevant professional experience. Initial support for establishing a strong program of research will be provided with the expectation that the research program will be progressively supported by extramural funding.
