JOB SUMMARY
The Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and Counseling at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for a full-time placement coordinator in Counseling beginning August 2023. The Counseling program is a master's degree program that houses two distinct concentrations: professional counseling and school counseling. We are searching for a full-time person to serve as placement liaison for up to 175 students in the masters in counseling program on both the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses. Students in the masters degree in counseling program are pursuing both LPCC licensure and a PPS credential and are required to complete practice hours as part of their educational experiences. Standards stipulate hours are regulated and vetted by the CTC for a PPS credential and the Board of Behavioral Sciences for licensure.
Applicants will possess a minimum of a masters degree in counseling or a related degree, with intimate knowledge about the MS in counseling program, and the specific geographical needs and demographics on both campuses. Applicants should possess a blend of skill to advise students, coordinating large amounts of information, managing multiple needs of students, school sites, mental health sites, on-site placement supervisors, and faculty.
The ideal applicant will have exceptional skills at developing management information systems to train supervisors in the community, articulate the flows of placement experiences for individual students using online tracking portals, ensure standards are being adhered to and updated as needed, developing new sites throughout the Inland Empire and Coachella Valley, ensure that memorandums of understanding are in place, and working closely with the faculty in the program as well as the entire student body.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
Typical activities for a placement coordinator includes, but not limited to:
Training
Develop online training modules for onsite supervisors at schools & mental health sites as to expectations and responsibilities for successful supervision of students using management information systems like Qualtrics and google.
Train supervisors of LPCC students for requirements.
Train & support university supervisors (faculty) as to what is needed for ongoing supervision of students.
Keep students and onsite supervisors and university supervisors abreast of changes in the manual or protocols.
Placement Activities and Coordination
Secure new site in schools and mental health sites.
Continues to work with long term school partners to establish creative programs.
Initiate,develop and oversee programs like the Lincoln Counseling Center.
Develop and maintain the vitality and growth of the Coyote Counseling Center.
Meets collectively every term with students to prepare them for placement, educating students about placement, hours, forms, etc.
Meets individually with students to answer questions and advise them as to placements and provides ongoing advising.
Create & maintain a database of available sites for students to select from.
Address problems that might arise if a student is struggling in a placement.
Serves on the Wellness advisory board at SBUCSD.
Consultation and Collaboration
Coordinate with student services to ensure each students are cleared by
HR departments at a school.
Work in tandem with the program coordinator to update the field manual annually.
Place students in placements sections based on need and geography in conjunction with ASC.
Data and Reporting
Track hours for student's overall progress as to hours accrued and at what level to ensure students graduate with the requisite 800 hours at 2 separate K-12 sites + 280 LPCC mental health hours. Also needs to ensure students are adhering to a direct to indirect ratio for all pps hours/experience.
Collate student observation data for annual reports, accreditation, etc. regarding collected data (observations, scores of student's performance, etc)
Collect and maintain evaluation data about supervisors and sites.
Provide data for the ongoing accreditation for both the BBS (Professional Clinical Counseling Track) and the CTC (School Counseling Concentration).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in Counseling or a related degree.
Knowledge and proficiency in MIS systems like google docs, Excel, Qualtrics, and Canvas to develop training systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Background in marketing or community organizing or college advising.
Experience in service learning and student fieldwork/placement supervision
Experience in counseling in mental health and community settings and/or in schools.
Demonstrate creative problem solving skills.
Ability to work well on a team of faculty, students and community members.
Ability to connect with graduate students and provide advising and support.
Ability to write accreditation reports.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage various data and information systems.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, social justice, diversity, and culturally sustaining approaches in the field of counseling.
