Appointments to the faculty of The University of Alabama are based on the personnel requirements of the University’s academic programs and on the goal of achieving and maintaining excellence in its teaching, research, and service/academic citizenship activities.
Detailed Position Information The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at The University of Alabama invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions across all domains relevant to chemical and biological engineering. Candidates with particular research emphasis and interests in the areas of electrochemical engineering, biomaterials, bio/metabolic engineering, and additive/advanced manufacturing are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidates from under-represented groups in engineering are strongly encouraged to apply.
The department’s research portfolio has rapidly expanded over the last few years, along with an unprecedented growth in research funding and doctoral student enrollment. The department prides itself in its highly interdisciplinary and collegial research atmosphere, as well as its thriving undergraduate program. Extensive collaboration opportunities exist within the department and across campus.
Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in chemical engineering or related field from an accredited institution, along with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Applicants must have conducted prior research work and produced scholarly publications in refereed and other professional journals. Applicants must also meet all university criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
Preferred Qualifications • Have a demonstrated record of high-quality research and scholarly peer-reviewed publications.
• Significant record of scholarship in a department with undergraduate and graduate degree programs in chemical engineering or a closely related field.
• Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• A strong record of both external grant funding and scholarship as demonstrated through refereed journal publications and other meritorious intellectual contributions.
