Position Summary The Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics (AEM) department is recruiting multiple tenured/tenure-track faculty positions. The following areas of research expertise are to be emphasized in the search:
• Solid mechanics & materials
• Space systems, space structures
• Additive and advanced manufacturing (including in-space and point-of-need manufacturing)

Detailed Position Information The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics (AEM) at The University of Alabama invites applications for multiple tenured/tenure-track faculty positions. Applications from candidates with appropriate experience and a strong record of scholarly productivity and impact are encouraged to apply. Applicants with research interests across all domains relevant to aerospace engineering and mechanics are encouraged to apply, but candidates with particular research emphasis and interests in the areas of solid mechanics & materials, space systems, space structures, and additive and advanced manufacturing (including in-space and point-of-need manufacturing) are of particular interest for one or more of these positions and thus are strongly encouraged to apply.
The AEM Department has experienced steady growth in the undergraduate aerospace engineering program over the past decade. It has a sustained enrollment of about 500 BSAE students and has recently appeared on the ASEE list of the top 20 BSAE producers in the nation. The Department also has an active MS and PhD program in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics supporting both residential and distance education students with a total graduate enrollment of over 150 students. Candidates must demonstrate a clear potential to successfully pursue and attain grants from external funding sources and to lead a highly productive research group with significant scholarly impact. An ability to collaborate with existing faculty in the key focus areas both within the AEM Department and the College of Engineering is also highly desirable. Teaching duties will include classes at the undergraduate and graduate level in the faculty member’s area of expertise as well as courses that support the delivery and accreditation of the Department’s degree programs.
Candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor, commensurate with their experience and qualifications and should clearly indicate the rank position they are seeking in the cover letter of their application materials. Candidates from under-represented groups in engineering are strongly encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in aerospace engineering, engineering mechanics or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Applicants must have conducted prior research work and produced scholarly publications in refereed and other professional journals. Applicants must also meet all university criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
Preferred Qualifications • PhD in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanics or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• A strong record of both external grant funding and scholarship as demonstrated through refereed journal publications.
