Responsibilities:
The College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University seeks applicants for Part-Time Lecturers to teach introductory and advanced courses in geographic information systems (GIS) for graduate students in the humanities and social sciences.
The Introductory course establishes foundational skills in spatial analysis, data structure and management, and cartographic visualization. Covers introductory concepts and tools in geographic information systems. Assignments apply concepts covered in lectures and a project in students' fields of interest. The Advanced class is a project-based course that offers students an opportunity to practice greater depth in the analysis of urban spatial data focused on urban systems (social, built, and natural).
Positions available throughout the year contingent upon enrollment and department need.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have an MS or PhD in GIS or geography, or an advanced degree in a related field. Candidates should show evidence of successful teaching using ArcGIS, ideally with ESRI certification. Priority will be given to candidates with 2-3 years of professional experience in government, urban planning, or other applied setting. Applicants who are familiar with policy-oriented research applications across a broad array of the social sciences and humanities are especially welcome.
