Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Community and Regional Planning (CRP) in the College of Design at Iowa State University is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 16, 2023.
The successful candidate will contribute to the missions of the Department and College by teaching core planning courses and electives at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as community development courses at the graduate level. We are seeking a candidate who has research, teaching, and professional expertise in the broadly defined area of community development. We seek an innovative and productive scholar interested in community development whose work focuses on one or more of the following:
community engagement
participatory and inclusive planning
food security and social justice
land use and physical planning
zoning and plan implementation
We invite candidates who use a range of quantitative and qualitative methods, including, but not limited to, participatory action research and community-engaged research. We expect the successful candidate to strengthen connections between our planning programs and our new online Masters in Community Development (MCD) program. The successful candidate should be able to develop and teach a variety of courses in their area(s) of expertise, at least one required course in the online MCD curriculum (ISU MCD) and contribute to existing courses in the on-campus planning programs (BSCRP)(MCRP)
Required Minimum Qualifications:A completed Ph.D. or D.Des. in urban planning, geography, public policy, rural sociology, communication, community development, or a closely related field by the start of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Documented teaching experience
2) Experience with online instruction
3) Evidence/promise of a strong publication record
4) Prior work experience in the practice of planning, community development, and/or community engagement
5) Evidence/potential for externally funded research; and 6) Subject-area expertise in public participation/community development.
