JOB PURPOSE
The York School is looking for an experienced and inspirational Teacher to be part of the Senior School faculty as a History and Humanities Teacher. The successful candidate will have had training or successful experience at the Intermediate and Senior Level with the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP) and will be well-versed in project-based and experiential learning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach Intermediate and Senior Level History, with the possibility of teaching Humanities (Geography, Economics) courses
Teach within the IB (International Baccalaureate) framework and philosophy
Participate in collaborative planning, committees and meetings
Participate in co-curricular activities, including athletics coaching
Participate in or lead experiential trips
Supervision duties as well as other duties related to the position
Prepare course objectives, lesson plans and outline for course of study, following IB and ministry curriculum guidelines, and deliver program
Incorporate technology in lessons to enhance the classroom experience
Ongoing assessment of students, including report cards, progress reports and marking
Establish and enforce student expectations with disciplinary strategies for an effective teaching and learning environment
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
Must have an Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) Certificate (Intermediate or Senior Divisions)
Bachelor’s degree with specialization in history or humanities
Minimum 2 years experience teaching history or humanities
Training and experience teaching the IB (International Baccalaureate) MYP (Middle Years Programme) and/or DP (Diploma Program) considered an asset
Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to interact with students, parents and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion
Strong organizational and time management skills
A proactive team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a “How can I help?” attitude
Proficiency in a technologically rich school environment, and skilled in Google Applications are considered an asset
