The Geography and Environment Dept. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks to fill one full-time teaching assistant professor fixed-term position. The position will have an initial appointment for 3 years with the possibility of reappointment. We seek one candidate who can teach courses Human Geography, which might include courses in World Regional Geography; Geographies of Globalization; Development and Inequality; and advanced courses in accordance with the instructor's areas of expertise. Successful candidates must be willing to teach at all undergraduate levels, including introductory courses through upper-level courses in their area of specialization.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Geography or a related field at the time of appointment and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. Experience teaching at the undergraduate level and advanced knowledge in human geography topics and evidence of prior classroom teaching effectiveness are required.

- The successful applicant will teach a total of 3 courses each semester (9 credit hours) to primarily undergraduate students for a total of 6 courses per academic year.
- All courses will be live, in-person instruction and include a mix of introductory and advanced classes. Advanced courses may be in a range of thematic areas that match the instructor's areas of expertise.
- Existing course syllabi and class plans will be available for some courses.
- Teaching assistants will be available to support instructors in large-format courses.
- The instructor will have the opportunity to engage in department and university life by attending department events, workshops, and colloquia, and taking advantage of teaching and training resources available across campus.
- The instructor will serve on various department committees.

Preference will be given to candidates who have relevant course development experience in human geography and who have demonstrated expertise in the target course areas.
