SOC 250: INTRODUCTION TO PACIFIC STUDIES Spring Semester 2022 (January - May)
Description: This course introduces students to the geography, histories, cultures, and societies of the Pacific Islands (Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Australia). Topics include traditional and contemporary religious practices, languages, arts, and athletics in the Pacific. The course emphasizes Pacific Islander perspectives and experiences as it examines the effects of colonization, resistance and rights movements, and current challenges to the health and well-being of Pacific Island communities.

The MiraCosta Community College District is located in San Diego County along the Southern California coast, between Orange County to the north and the metropolitan area of San Diego to the south. The district is approximately 35 miles north of San Diego and 90 miles south of Los Angeles. The District includes the cities of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach, Del Mar, the unincorporated areas of La Costa, Olivehain, and portions of Carmel Valley and Camp Pendleton Marine Base.
